Shield Mechanical switches to Electric
As part of its transition to a fully electric fleet, specialist technical contractor Shield selected Sync Energy to deliver a high-capacity EV charging solution at its new head office in Bristol. Sync Energy worked closely with the Shield team to assess the site, calculate load requirements, and recommend a practical, scalable charging setup to meet the growing needs of both staff and visitors. Working alongside local Sync Energy distributor Medlocks of Bristol, the installation was completed with full support from Sync Energy through commissioning and handover.
What problem did it solve?
Shield had outgrown its single-charger setup and required a more robust solution to support the increasing demand for EV charging across its expanding electric company car fleet and anticipated van rollout. With more staff switching to EVs and regular visitors also needing access, the challenge was to find a future-proof system that could deliver reliable, high-capacity charging without overloading the building’s power supply. Sync Energy’s solution addressed both the electrical demands and the need for a sleek, user-friendly experience.
What products did Sync Energy supply
The install included Sync Energy Pro Charger Twin Wall Mounted EV Chargers with twin Type 2 socket outlets, each coming with a backlit colour touchscreen, built-in 4G, RFID access and MID meters as standard. Sync Energy also supplied the EV Balancer – a hardwired load management system designed to link up to 16 charge points and dynamically distribute available power. This system prevents circuit overload and ensures a consistent and reliable charging experience, even at full capacity.
Why did the customer choose Sync Energy
Edward Vill, Electrical Operations Manager at Shield Mechanical Electrical & Facilities Services, said: “Over and above the technical spec, we also liked the sleek look of the system and its user-friendly nature. We currently have key fobs open to all.”
Sarah Cox, Business Development Manager at Sync Energy, added: “It was a real pleasure working with Shield on this exciting project. We were able to provide a tailored charging solution that met their immediate needs and gave them the flexibility to expand as their fleet grows. It’s another great example of how our team supports forward-thinking businesses making the shift to electric.”
