Our quick reference guide aims to educate you on the UK OZEV grant available for electric vehicles (EVs) and their charging infrastructure
Summary
The OZEV Grant (or Electric vehicle charge-point grant) refers to the UK government grant for electric car home chargers, provided by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).
Note: As of 31st March, the previous OZEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) is no longer available to claim.
- The grant provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing and installing a home charging point
- You can claim one charge-point per eligible vehicle and household
- The grant is available for people who live in rented property or own a flat with dedicated off-street parking
- Your property manager or landlord may also be able to claim an additional grant towards the cost of installing infrastructure for you and your neighbours via the EV infrastructure grant for residential car parks
- Advice for landlords can be found here

How do I know if I'm eligible?
You can apply for this grant if:
- you own and live in a flat, or you rent any residential property
- your home has its own private off-street parking space
- you own an eligible vehicle
- you have not already claimed the grant (or its predecessors, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) and the Domestic Recharge Scheme)
Additionally, please note that you can no longer claim for 2 charge-points if you own a second EV.
See full qualifying criteria, including vehicle and property requirements, on the government website.
You cannot apply if you:
- have already claimed for the grant (or its predecessors, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) and the Domestic Recharge Scheme) are moving house or planning on moving
- want a new charge-point, even if a new car is not compatible with the current one
- want to move an existing charge-point to a new property
- live in a house that you own (not a flat that's part of a house)
Which vehicles are eligible for the grant?
The list of eligible vehicles is constantly changing, as a result we recommend you view the Government list of approved electric vehicles.
How do I claim the OZEV grant?
Your vehicle and charge-point must be on the list of approved models. Sync Energy charge-points are approved for the grant, click here to view the list.

After you've applied
Once the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) has approved your application, they'll let your installer know that they can start the work.
Your installer must either complete the work within 90 days of your application being approved, or request an extension.
When your installer finishes the installation, they will claim the grant on your behalf.
Your invoice will show the total installation cost minus the grant amount. We will give details of your charge-point to OZEV, along with photographs of the installation and an invoice.
In some cases, the OZEV may choose to audit your installation to check it meets the grant requirements. If they do, OZEV will arrange for auditors to contact you for a site visit. If you do not allow a site visit, your installation may be stopped.
